Education Workshop — Navigation Basics: Map and Compass

Together they form the first of the time-tested Ten Essentials—map and compass, the indispensable twin tools of navigation.
Even in this high-tech GPS era, nothing replaces the value of a magnetized compass, a paper map, and the understanding of how both can help you find your way in the wilderness.
Please dress for the conditions. Bring your compass, a bottle of water, a pencil, a ruler, and a folding chair. Maps will be provided.

Enter at the Newton Road entrance and drive 0.2 miles past the steel deck bridge. We will meet at the old concession stand on the left, near the Y in the road. Parking is available there.
