DESCRIPTION:Erie County Emergency Services will conduct a firefighting demonstration and aerial display at the training facility at Chestnut Ridge Park on Saturday June 25 at 2:00PM This free event is open to the public. \nThe program will consist of discussions and demonstrations of firefighting equipment\, training\, and techniques. A ‘live’ fire will be started and extinguished explaining various equipment\, strategies and safety concerns. \nDan Neaverth will emcee the event step by step. \nThe program should last 1-1.5 hours.

DESCRIPTION:If you ever find yourself in a survival situation\, or perhaps you have a weekend to yourself to spend in the woods\, a good value for your time is the construction of a primitive shelter. It won’t be a hotel room\, but the satisfaction and enjoyment of building your own shelter will help you sleep soundly at night. Also\, you won’t have to battle the elements while you catch those essential ZZZs. \nAdvanced registration is required. Build site will be only a short walk into the woods\, so all are invited. Come out and learn a new skill that could maybe someday save a life. Instead\, this month’s education workshop will discuss Safety Guidelines (and more) for Women Hikers/Walkers. \nCome and meet Chief Scott R. Patronik and Chief Alan Rozansky\, both members of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office\, who served as members of the task force that helped to bring Altemio Sanchez\, the notorious Bike Path Rapist\, to justice in 2006. They will discuss the case and also discuss safety tips for persons utilizing remote recreational areas. \nAdvanced registration is required. DESCRIPTION:The Erie County Parks Department partners with the Orchard Park Recreation Department to present this popular\, free event that features a full schedule of family fun on both days. Events run from 11:00am to 3:00pm both Saturday 12/12/15 and Sunday 12/13/15. \nPresented by the Erie County Parks\, Recreation & Forestry Department in conjunction with the Orchard Park Recreation Department\, Santa Land is bringing back family activities this year including a hay maze\, wood cutting\, and marshmallow roasts on both days. Family favorites from earlier years return as well\, with hay rides to Santa\, face painting\, a huge mural\, and arts & crafts scheduled for both days. In addition\, the Casino’s concession stand will be open during the event offering food and drink for sale. If conditions permit\, sledding will also be available. Santa Land is also a designated drop-off site for the Toys for Tots campaign\, and participants are encouraged to drop off a new\, unwrapped toy to brighten a child’s holiday. \nThe Chestnut Ridge Conservancy provides volunteers at this event.
